How to Troubleshoot Nissan Pathfinder Low Tire Pressure Sensor Malfunction

Troubleshoot a low pressure sensor on your Nissan Pathfinder.

Many people don't know that it is mandatory for every vehicle manufactured today to have a low tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) installed. The reason for this is that so many accidents and even fatalities are attributed to tire failure. It has been discovered that one of the main reasons that a tire fails is that people don't check their air pressure. It seems that people just don't take the time to even look at their tire until it fails. This is why the U.S. government made this system mandatory, so that you can see on your dashboard when you have a low tire. From time to time you may have a low-pressure light showing on the dashboard of your Nissan Pathfinder. Sometimes it could be due to a malfunction of the unit itself.
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
Things You'll Need
Air pressure gauge
Valve core tool
TPMS computer code tool
1

Check the air pressure in each tire one at a time using an air pressure gauge. Make sure the air pressure is at the level specified on the vehicle door jamb. Sometimes an oil change store adjusts the air pressure to what they think it should be and not what the specifications require.
2

Work on one wheel at a time by loosening the valve core with the valve core tool. Insert the tool into the stem and turn it counterclockwise. Re-tighten the core by turning the core clockwise. Readjust the air pressure to the car specifications.
3

Set the TPMS to read each wheel's TPMS codes. If one of the low-pressure sensors is not working, the TPMS computer tool will show you which one is the culprit. The directions for using the TPMS computer tool are included in the set, but it is usually explained on the screen of the tool.
