How to Replace an Air Filter in a Nissan Sentra

Changing the air filter on a Nissan Sentra is a simple task that should take under 10 minutes to perform. A clean air filter is important for good gas mileage and engine longevity, because it allows air to freely flow to the engine. Change the air filter every 30,000 miles, or every 3,000 miles when the car is driven in dusty areas.
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
Things You'll Need
Screwdriver
1

Turn the Sentra off. Keep the car off while working on the air filter to protect yourself from possible engine backfires.
2

Lift the hood of the Nissan. Locate the air filter housing unit along the driver's side of the car, near the center of the side.
3

Remove the lid from the housing unit by unscrewing the screws with a screwdriver, then lifting it off.
4

Take the old filter from the housing unit by gently pulling it out. Clean any remaining debris out of the air filter unit. Wipe both the internal and external surfaces of the unit down with a slightly damp cloth.
5

Place the new air filter in the housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2376, for a Sentra manufactured during the years 2007 to 2008. Use part number 33-2031-2 for a Sentra manufactured between 1991 and 2006.
6

Put the lid back in place. Replace the screws and tighten them with a screwdriver.
