How to Replace an Air Filter in a Nissan Maxima

It is recommended that engine air filters are changed every 30,000 miles, unless the car is driven in dusty conditions then it should be changed every 3,000 miles. A clean air filter allows air to freely flow to the engine which improves gas mileage and increases engine life. Spend just 10 minutes or less to change the air filter in a Nissan Maxima.

1

Turn the Maxima off. Leave the car off while working on the air filter, it is a barrier against engine backfires.
2

Lift the hood of the Nissan. Locate the air filter housing unit on the driver's side of the car. Look for a black box that has a large hose attached to it that leads to the engine.
3

Open the lid on the air filter housing unit by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place. Lift the lid off of the unit.
4

Pull the old filter from the housing unit. Clean any remaining debris out of the air filter unit. Wipe down the surfaces of the housing unit with a damp cloth.
5

Place the new air filter in the housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2031-2, for a Nissan Maxima manufactured between 1982 and 2008.
6

Close the lid on the housing unit and tighten the screws.
