How to Change the Bulbs on a Nissan Xterra

Change the headlight bulbs on your Nissan Xterra anytime you notice one is dim or not functioning. Bulbs that have stopped working pose a hazard as the driver's visibility is lowered. The bulbs are available at any auto parts store and can be purchased in pairs or one at a time. Replace the bulbs together for best performance and visibility.
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
1

Open the hood of your Xterra. Locate the rear of the headlight assembly and remove the wiring connector on the back of the bulb. Release the locking tab on the connector and pull the connector straight out.
2

Locate the retaining ring on the back of the headlight assembly and turn it counterclockwise. Pull the ring off the back of the housing and set it aside.
3

Remove the bulb by pulling it straight out of the housing. Insert the new bulb into the housing and install the retaining ring. Turn the ring clockwise until it locks in place.
4

Push the electrical connector onto the back of the bulb until it snaps into place. Repeat these steps and change the bulb on the other side of the truck.
5

Close the hood, making sure that it is latched securely. Turn on the lights and test them to verify that they are working correctly and that both high and low beams are working.

Tips & Warnings

When handling headlight bulbs, do not to touch the glass part of the bulb with your fingers. The oils from your skin will weaken the bulb, making it fail early.
