How to Replace a Horn in a Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima has been in production since 1993. These models were originally compacts, but the versions made since 2001 have been mid-size cars. Many Nissan Altima enthusiasts are dissatisfied with the sound of the original equipment manufacturer's horn and choose to replace it. You'll need only a few tools because changing a horn on an Altima is a fairly straightforward task.
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
Things You'll Need
New horn kit
Socket wrench set
Wire crimper/stripper
1

Buy a horn kit. The Nissan Altima has both a low and high tone horn so a direct factory replacement should have two horns. If you are only replacing one horn, ensure the new horn has the correct tone.
2

Locate the original manufacturer's horns. The horns for the Nissan Altima are behind the grill under the hood latch.
3

Remove the power connector from the horns, take out the mounting bolt with a socket wrench and remove the original horn. You should be able to use the original mounting location and fasteners if you are installing factory replacements. However, if you are installing custom horns, you may need to find an alternate location with minimal vibration and mount the new horns with the accessories included in the kit.
4

Use the original wiring harnesses if they fit the new horns. Otherwise, you will need to use a wire crimper/stripper to connect the new harness to the old wiring. Plug the wiring harnesses into the new horns.
5

Test the new horns to ensure they are working. It should be easy to tell if both horns are sounding, and you can also test the horns one at a time if you need to.
