Replace a Nissan Versa Cabin Air Filter

Many modern Nissan models, including the Versa, come standard with cabin air filters. Much like engine air filters reduce particulates that blow through the engine air intake, cabin air filters reduce dust, dirt and allergy-aggravating particles that blow into the passenger compartment through the vents. Checking this filter often and replacing it when it is dirty is important, because once it gets too clogged and old, the air coming through your vents will have an odor and you will have restricted air flow.

Instructions

Take everything out of the glove box on the passenger's side and leave the glove box door open.

Remove all seven screws holding the glove box in place using a Phillips screwdriver. There are three screws along the top of the glove box and four along the bottom.

Pull the glove box out of the dash assembly part of the way. You will see an electrical cord connecting to the back left side of the glove box. Unplug the connector from the glove box and let the cord dangle, and then set the entire glove box assembly aside.

Look on the center console side of the hole where the glove box was, and you'll see a narrow rectangular hatch that is about the size of your replacement air filter. Remove this hatch by pressing down on the tab at the top and pulling it toward you.

Look at the old filter inside the compartment, and you'll see a little arrow printed on the side. Take note of the direction this arrow is pointing, because you must put the new filter in with the arrow pointing the same way.

Pull the old filter out, and then slide the new filter in, making sure the arrow is pointing in the right direction.

Put the plastic hatch back over the cabin air filter opening.

Slide the glove box halfway into place, then connect the electric cord to the socket on the back left hand side. Push the glove box all the way into its original place when the cord is connected.

Replace all seven of the screws tightly, and then put everything back into the glove box and close the door.

Tips & Warnings

If you allow your filter to become clogged, it will restrict air flow to all of your vents. If the weather is cold and frost starts developing on your windshield, this may prevent your defrosters from working well enough to provide safe visibility.
