Nissan Maxima
You've fixed whatever issue was causing your Service Engine Soon light to come on, however, you can't seem to figure out how to reset the ECU so that the light shuts off. It's much easier than you'd think to reset so read on.

Stopwatch or watch with a second hand

Turn the ignition key to the on position (do not start the car, though) and wait exactly three seconds.

After waiting for three seconds, push the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and release 5 times within 5 seconds.

Wait EXACTLY seven seconds.

Push the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and hold for ten seconds. At this point the SES light should start flashing the error codes that are stored in the system and you can release the pedal. If you only get five slow flashes or no flashes at all, then your timing was off on one of the above steps and you should start over.

Now to clear the codes, push the pedal back down all the way to the floor and hold for at least ten seconds. The light will continue to flash and there's no indication that the codes have been cleared so make sure you time ten seconds or more.

At this point you can turn the ignition to the off position and turn the car back on. Your light should now be off! If it's still on, you may have missed one of the above steps or the computer may still be sensing an error.
Tips & Warnings
Timing is absolutely crucial to getting this right. Even with a stopwatch I had to re-do this several times before I got it right. If it doesn't work the first time, don't give up, just try again.
This definitely works on Maximas from 2004-2008. I know it will not work on older Maximas and have no idea if it still works on newer Maximas.
This will not fix whatever problem was causing the error code. This only clears the code from the computer. If the problem is still there, your light will come back on.
