I own an 07 Nissan Versa. During one service, the mechanic told me that my air filter needed to be changed. It cost ~$45 which I think were expensive. After find a compatible filter online, I noticed there are very little information on how to change the air filter for a Versa, as this a relatively new model. So I decided to take pictures of me changing the air filter so it might help someone.

07 Nissan Versa air filter compartment
Pop open your trunk of you Versa. The air filter compartment is on the top part of the engine. Look for the part shown in the picture.

One of the catch holding the compartment cap down
The catch holding the compartment cap is shown in the picture. There are two catches one on each side. The catch are release by pressing the catch in and then pushing it up toward you.

Contents of the air filter compartment
Once open, the contents of the compartment is as shown.

Old filter and the casing
Remove the filter and its case. Throw away the old filter and wipe down the case.

new filter in the casing
Put in the new filter just like the old filter. The thicker side should sit in the casing.

Slot the casing with the filter into the compartment as it was with the old filter. Push the filter forward, ensure that there are no gaps. this is to ensure the air go through the filter

Put back the cap and you are done!
Tips & Warnings
look and remember before u remove any parts so that you know how it fits.
Clean air filter ensure more air goes to your engine. Its makes your engine works better and get a better gas mileage
This is my experience with changing my own air filters. It may or may not work for you. There is always some risk involved. If you are not sure, ask your mechanic to do it and pay for the peace of mind.
Do it when the engine has cooled down
Make sure the part you get are for Nissan Versa or the model you have.
