How to Replace the Battery in a Nissan Sentra

Since 1982, the Nissan Sentra has performed moderately well in the marketplace. It's a reliable mid-size car and is as durable as most Nissan products. The battery is a 12-volt that can be replaced with most brands. Nissan, however, recommends that you use genuine Nissan parts.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
Things You'll Need
New 12-volt battery
Battery terminal puller
Wire brushes
Socket wrench
Gloves
Goggles
1

Find the battery sitting up high in the front of the car just behind the headlight on the driver's side.
2

Remove the negative cable first and then disconnect the positive cable from the battery terminal. Use pliers or a battery terminal puller.
3

Lift the battery out of the compartment. Keep your gloves on at all times to avoid getting acid on your hands. Safely dispose of the battery at an auto parts store or a recycling center.
4

Use a wire brush to clean the surface that holds the battery. Wipe it down with a damp cloth and let it dry.
5

Clean the insides of the connector cables with a pointed wire brush and dry them off with an old cloth you can throw away. Wear glasses or goggles to prevent acid from splashing in your eyes.
6

Place the new battery on the shelf. Attach the correct cable on each terminal and tighten it securely with pliers or a socket wrench.

Tips & Warnings

Sometimes when the battery light comes on the Nissan Sentra, some owners report the problem is actually with the alternator and not the battery.

Never smoke when replacing a battery.

Wear gloves when handling the battery and the battery cables.
