How to Change a Nissan Murano's Oil

Change the oil in your Murano to protect the engine.

You should change the oil in your Nissan Murano at least every 7,500 miles or sooner if you drive in high-demand conditions. If you put off oil changes because of the time involved waiting for a service center, save yourself time and money by completing the process at home. Buy a replacement oil filter and the necessary supplies from an auto parts retail store for much less than the cost of a repair center.

Instructions
Things You'll Need
Oil drain pan
Wrench set
Oil filter wrench
1

Raise the hood of your Murano and remove the oil fill cap. Set the cap aside in a safe location.
2

Place a drain pan beneath the oil drain plug. The drain plug is on the rear of the oil pan. The oil pan is located about halfway back from the front of the engine. Remove the drain plug with a wrench.
3

Place a drain pan beneath the oil drain plug. The drain plug is on the rear of the oil pan. The oil pan is located about halfway back from the front of the engine. Remove the drain plug with a wrench.
4

Shift the drain pan beneath the oil filter. The filter is located on the front of the oil drain pan. Remove the filter using an oil filter wrench. Set the filter upside down in the drain pan to let the oil drain out of it.
5

Fill the new filter completely with oil. Rub a thin layer of clean oil on the gasket around the top of the new filter to ensure a solid seal on the gasket. Install the new filter by hand until it just reaches the face of the mounting area. Turn it an additional 2/3 turn to tighten it completely.
6

Fill the engine with oil by pouring oil in the oil fill area of the engine. The engine has an oil capacity of approximately 5 quarts, including the oil poured into the filter.
7

Dispose of the used oil in an appropriate manner. Most auto parts stores will accept it free of charge for proper processing.
