How to Import a 2002 Nissan Skyline GTR

Import a 2002 Nissan Skyline GTR

The Nissan Skyline GTR is a sports car developed by Nissan. The older versions of the vehicle were solely produced in Japan and as such are not available in the United States. In order to drive the Skyline GTR in the United States, a customer has to import the vehicle. This can be done after completing a set of steps.
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
1

Contact a Certified Commercial Importer. The 2002 Skyline GTR was not designed for use in the United States and as a result did not undergo the required crash testing. The importer will help certify the vehicle and obtain a license.
2

Inquire about the cost of importing the Skyline GTR to the United States. The cost will include the certification and registration of the vehicle with the standards set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). You will not have to contact the NHTSA yourself when working with a certified importer.
3

Contact the NHTSA and apply for permission to bring the vehicle to the U.S. for a display or show purpose. This is another way to import the Skyline GTR without the aid of an importer. You can find out more information at the agency's website (http://www.nhtsa.gov/) or by calling 1-888-327-4236. Convince the agency that the vehicle has some kind of artistic or technological importance. Even if you are successful, you will not be able to drive the GTR more than 2,500 miles in a one-year period.
